Our core fundamentals are what separates us from most Firms. We are not a Brokerage Firm but rather an advisory Firm that specializes in an active approach to investment management. Active investment management means the following:
- Selling equities during volatile sessions to reduce the portfolio's overall risk
- As a result of an equity sell, it may mean holding larger Cash positions while the volatility continues until positive momentum indicators state otherwise
- Acquiring both Stop Orders (including Trail Stops) and Limit Orders. These type of orders greatly reduce one's speculative risk and eliminates the concept of Market Timing
- Executing portfolio re-balancing often. It is imperative to move in and out of specific Market Sectors when the momentum indicators clearly state so
Another core fundamental is our close watch on the 11 Sectors and their relative Industries within the SP 500. In 2009, it was clear that Health Care was the Sector of choice. It was not unusual for our portfolios to carry a weighted average exceeding 37% in this Sector. The same for the Sector Information Technology in 2017 where our weighted average exceeded 44%. Not all Sectors are going to perform the same year in and year out so it is imperative to move in and out as the Sectors move in and out in order to optimize returns .
